Grants & Funding

Supporting better care through charitable funding

Our grants programme exists to support projects and initiatives that go beyond NHS core provision, improving care, experience and outcomes for patients, families, and staff.

Our approach to funding:

We are currently developing our grant programmes as part of our wider plans to ensure charitable funds are used as effectively and fairly as possible.

Going forward, funding will be delivered through structured grant rounds, aligned to priority areas of care. This approach ensures that all requests are considered consistently, transparently, and with the greatest potential impact.

Prioritising our current commitments:

At present, we are focusing on delivering and reviewing our existing funding commitments and programmes. This ensures that:

  • Projects already funded are fully supported to achieve their intended impact

  • Charitable funds are used responsibly and in line with donor intent

  • We have a clear understanding of outcomes before allocating further funding

Taking this approach allows us to plan future funding rounds more effectively, ensuring that new investment is targeted where it will make the greatest difference.

Some of our current commitments include:

  • reinstating Volunteering at NHS Borders

  • developing and embedding Simulation Based Education

  • piloting the Admiral Nurse programme, in partnership with Dementia UK

  • enhancing the Staff Rest area in the BGH Dining Room

  • enhancing the Borders Macmillan Centre

  • developing and enhancing Palliative Care through an almost £1 million investment — the biggest since building the Margaret Kerr Unit!

Accessing funding:

Funding will be awarded through formal application processes during open grant rounds.

Details of future funding opportunities will be shared on this page.
